The American pioneer in electric mobility Tesla has registered a key moment in its history, surpassing the mark of 10 million fully battery-powered vehicles assembled. The anniversary model - a black Model Y crossover - rolled off the assembly line at the iconic plant in Fremont, California. The symbolism is significant, since it was this plant that launched the brand's mass production and only six years ago reported its first million cars produced.
The pace at which the pioneer in the sector deployed its production capacities remains unprecedented in modern automotive history. To reach the first seven-figure sum, the company needed more than a decade of experimentation and industrial maturation. Subsequently, however, thanks to the strategic expansion of the network of Gigafactory facilities in Texas, Shanghai and near Berlin, the American manufacturer sold 9 million cars in a remarkably short period.
Despite the festive mood surrounding the market milestone, the path to the ambitious goal of 20 million vehicles seems to be strewn with obstacles. The foundation of the success so far is mainly two pillars - the Model Y SUV and the Model 3 sedan. At the same time, the Cybertruck pickup truck is encountering serious difficulties in gaining market positions, and the flagships Model S and Model X are gradually giving way to more mass and affordable alternatives.
After a certain slowdown in growth rates and intensified competition on a global scale, the American brand is showing signs of stability this year. The dynamics of the fuel market have once again turned the attention of buyers to electric drives, with the company reporting nearly 452 thousand vehicles delivered in the second quarter of the year. It remains to be seen whether technological superiority and manufacturing efficiency will be enough to maintain a dominant role in the rapidly changing auto industry.
