The engineers in Affalterbach seem to have decided to rewrite the laws of physics and once again set the bar unattainable for the competition. The German giant Mercedes-AMG has revealed the first hinting shots of its upcoming all-electric off-road model. This highly aerodynamic crossover coupe steps directly on the foundations of the architecture of the new GT 4-Door, turning it into an off-road fighter with brutal characteristics.
The heart of this technological machine will be the top version 63, which relies on three electric motors. The system generates an impressive 1169 horsepower and a cosmic 2000 Nm of torque. These figures guarantee catapulting from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h. Even with such potential, the autonomous range on a single charge will reach 696 kilometers. For lovers of balanced dynamics, the 53 version will also be offered with a pair of electric motors, all-wheel drive, 543 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, powered by a battery with a capacity of about 106 kWh.
The architecture of the power unit hints at exceptional efficiency during long-distance transitions. The car will support ultra-fast direct current charging with a power of up to a colossal 600 kW. This technology allows the accumulation of energy for approximately 534 kilometers of range within just a short ten-minute stop at the charging station. For reference, the GT 4-Door 53 sedan accelerates to one hundred in 3.9 seconds and provides a range of between 682 and 809 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, which also sets high expectations for its SUV version.
The exterior of the model radiates aggression and unwaveringness from every angle. The front is dominated by a wide grille and precisely shaped air intakes, above which are positioned daytime running lights with an emblematic three-pointed star graphic. The long hood flows smoothly into the sloping windshield, and the profile is distinguished by bulging fender arches and a roof line that dynamically descends to the rear. At the rear, the model retains the silhouette of the GT 4-Door, but the surprise comes from the pair of round light elements with an integrated star motif.
The coupe promises to turn every journey into a state-of-the-art digital experience. Although the company is still keeping the details under wraps, the interior concept will closely follow the direction of its GT 4-Door sibling. The cabin is expected to feature a trio of screens - a 10.2-inch digital cockpit behind the beveled sports steering wheel, a central 14-inch touchscreen display for the multimedia system and a separate 14-inch screen for the front passenger. The equipment also includes deeply profiled sports seats, a dual zone for wireless charging of smartphones and ambient lighting.
The panoramic Sky Control roof deserves special attention. The innovative glazing features electrochromic technology, thanks to which the transparency of the glass changes instantly at the touch of a button, going from completely clear to opaque for protection from the sun's rays.
Full technical specifications, price lists and the date of the world premiere still remain under wraps. The appearance of the first official images, however, is a sure sign that the debut of the new ruler of Affalterbach is only a matter of time.
