In the UK, Ionic Auctioneers has put up a replica of the famous BMW 3.0 CSL from 1973. Although not authentic, the car is expected to fetch £180,000 (€209,000). This is announced on the auction website.
The high price of this BMW CSL imitation is due to the fact that one of the owners of the car is the vocalist of the band Jamiroquai Jay Kay. He is a famous car collector and at various times his collection includes Ferrari 430 Scuderia, LaFerrari and F40, Lamborghini Miura, Porsche Carrera GT, Mercedes 190 Evolution, etc.
The BMW 3.0 CSL clone was created in the late 1980s and is based on the standard production BMW coupe. The car has an aerodynamic bodykit, spoiler, roll cage and sports seat. The volume of the six-cylinder engine has been increased from 3.0 to 3.5 liters.
Most of the owners of the BMW 3.0 CSL have participated in vintage parades, but Jason Cheetham, known by the nickname Jay Kay, only uses the sports car for racing on the track. However, he invested a lot of money in the restoration of the car. He owned the sports car from 2013 to 2017.
