Cornelia Ninova: Incompetent, thieving and lying rulers are indifferent, and the price of water is rising

Cornelia Ninova: Incompetent, thieving and lying rulers are indifferent, and the price of water is rising - 1

"The Council of Ministers sent me a letter. I asked them under the Law on Access to Public Information how many private hydroelectric power plants there are on Bulgarian rivers and dams, how much water they use and who the owners are. They replied that they do not have such data and are referring my questions to the Ministry of Energy. They have 14 days to answer me. They delay all deadlines. Nothing — I am waiting for them. But while they are passing the ball around, the water situation is getting worse.

The KEWR report has been released, which analyzes and evaluates the sector for 2024 and contains data until August 2025. The commission checked 42 companies and found that water losses are increasing, not decreasing. In some places they reach 70-80% (I am publishing the table here).

Despite all the oaths of the rulers that they are solving the problem, it not only stands still, but is also growing. And notice - it is growing the most in the regions where the most money is being thrown around (for example, Pernik). Where is this money sinking? Over 70% of the water is being lost - this is madness. Part of the rest goes into the pockets of private hydroelectric power plants (of MPs, ministers and those close to power).

Incompetent, thieving and lying rulers are careless and collect commissions, and the price of water for people is constantly rising. I am sounding the alarm once again: water and food are an absolute priority. The next conflicts in the world will be for fertile land and water sources. We have both. It is up to us alone to save them from the clutches of thieves and ensure them for future generations."
