The MP from "Continuing Change – Democratic Bulgaria" Martin Dimitrov demanded that the government immediately inspect the mandatory oil reserves in Bulgaria. The statement was made today in the program "Speak Now" on BNT, as a comment on the situation with the "Lukoil" refinery after the US sanctions.
"The first thing that the ministers must report is whether they have inspected the mandatory oil reserves in Bulgaria and whether they are available. If not, what measures have they taken immediately," said Martin Dimitrov, quoted by BNT.
The energy expert specified that the available reserves are secured until the end of the year, but insisted on full transparency and provision of specific data by the cabinet.
On the issue of the future of "Lukoil", the PP-DB MP indicated that the state has a tool for appointing a special representative. According to him, however, the best solution would be to find a large, reputable Western investor for the refinery.
Dimitrov's statement comes a day after Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov assured that the government has a clear plan of action and that fuels are guaranteed until the end of 2025.
The new US sanctions, announced on October 22, are aimed at the Russian oil giants "Lukoil" and "Rosneft". "Lukoil" operates the only oil refinery in Bulgaria - the one in Burgas.
According to experts, Bulgaria has until November 21 to decide what measures to take in the refinery case. After that date, the company will not be able to work with its counterparties due to the sanctions regime.
