The case with "Lukoil" showed the political weakness of the European Union, because it is experiencing the boomerang effect of the sanctions policy, which it itself professes and introduced. This was stated in the "Metronome" program on Radio "Focus" by Ivo Hristov, a member of the Committee for Protection against Discrimination, an MEP from the previous mandate of the EP, former Chief of Staff of President Rumen Radev, journalist, translator and publicist.
Although the sanctions this time were introduced by the US, according to Hristov, they do not affect them. "They are panicking European countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and others. We see that the boomerang effect is hitting Europe," he specified again.
"The issue of the multi-billion dollar assets of the sanctioned companies is the subject of agreements between Washington and Moscow, and the EU and Bulgaria, as part of it, are only spectators and performers. The channel of communication between the US and Russia has never been completely interrupted even during the Biden era," he explained, adding that no one knows exactly what agreements were reached, but according to him, the strategic withdrawal of the US from Europe is visible.
Hristov emphasized that the process, which is now public, will continue, and the reason for this is that "the US resembles a large ship that cannot undertake sharp maneuvers. Once a course is chosen, the US follows it."
"For me, the big problem is that "Lukoil" "it was once privatized because a refinery in its situation is inevitably profitable," he said, describing it as "profitable by definition".
