Residents of the capital's "Belite Brezi" district are protesting over construction plans in the center of a park. The dissatisfied claim that for forty years there has been a small forest and green areas on this plot of land. However, the municipality is granting a building permit - initially for the construction of a parking lot with a barrier, and the protesters are preparing for a human chain if the excavators come, and today - to block "Bulgaria" Blvd., "Nova TV" reported.
„People are angry that the green areas will be built on private property. The idea now is for an open parking lot, with the parking spaces probably between the trees,” says a resident of the neighborhood.
“People are rightly worried about the fact that the private owner here wants to build a temporary parking lot. He has applied for a visa. When the “White Birches” neighborhood was conceived, there should have been a green area here to protect it from noise and pollution. The intentions for changes today are ruining this idea. If this is going to be done, a new detailed development plan must be created here so that the green areas remain,” said the deputy mayor of the district, Sotir Ivanov.
The protesters categorically stated that they would not allow any construction under any circumstances. Their biggest concerns are that they will no longer breathe clean air, and that their children will have nowhere to play.
