The deadline for MPs to propose changes between the first and second reading of the 2026 Budget has expired.
This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by the MP from the APS PG Hasan Ademov and he specified that this is according to a procedure set out in the Rules of Procedure for the Organization and Activities of the National Assembly:
"Employers, unions and the government will be able to make proposals, but MPs will not be able to. Unless this deadline for proposals is extended by some procedure different from the rules. But I don't know of any such practice so far".
The budget must meet the requirements of Bulgarian citizens, that's why there were protests, he emphasized and commented:
"The rulers decided to forcefully impose the budget they are proposing, which is unacceptable to anyone".
According to Ademov, at this stage it is unclear how key issues in the budget procedure will be resolved:
"Mechanism for determining the minimum wage. The automatic mechanisms in the security, education and justice sectors will be resolved in a way that guarantees fiscal stability".
According to him, narrow-party interest dominates over the national interest during the budget procedure:
"The national interest includes stable public finances, and everything that is proposed by the ruling coalition leads to serious doubts about the instability of public finances".
