The blockades of the Bulgarian-Greek border continued for the fifth day. Yesterday, Greek farmers did not allow trucks through the “Kulata - Promahon“ border crossing for hours. Transport workers in our country are demanding that the state intervene. They are also preparing to refer to the European Commission.
Due to the daily blockades of "Kulata", Bulgarian transport companies are starting to suffer serious losses. The inability of trucks to reach a ferry or deliver goods to the interior of Greece costs them at least 150-200 euros in losses every day.
Alexander Stamboliyski, Union of Bulgarian Transport Workers: "Do the math, if you have to wait a few days... Things will get very bad. As you can see, there is absolutely no response from the Bulgarian state."
If the blockades continue for more than a week, the Union of Bulgarian Transport Workers is preparing to refer to Bulgarian and European institutions.
Alexander Stamboliyski, Union of Bulgarian Transport Workers: "We will refer to our government, the European Commission, the European Parliament - here there are trucks from at least ten countries that transit through Bulgaria. This is not a problem only for us. The problem is for half of Europe."
Valentin Stankov: "We are not at all to blame that the Greeks have a problem with their country. They will take their subsidies and everything, and what are we doing, only causing trouble on the roads."
In addition to border crossings, there are also blockades on highways and main roads in our southern neighbor. Detours are used, but they significantly extend travel time.
