"The extraordinary ambassador of Turkey made a clear commitment to more information from the competent Turkish authorities about everything that preceded the arrival of the ship "Kairos" to Bulgarian territory. The ship's crew consists of 10 people, with 7 of the crew having been evacuated". This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev at a briefing at the Council of Ministers, quoted by news.bg.
Georgiev explained that in connection with the case of the tanker "Kairos", the government has been aware of all the details of the case since last week. Today, a conversation was held with the Turkish Ambassador to Bulgaria, who provided more information about the ship in question until it is brought into Bulgarian waters, the Foreign Minister specified.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Grozdan Karadjov added that the last operation to evacuate the crew members was completed today. The evacuees are accommodated in a hotel and are in Varna. Only three people will remain on board the ship "Kairos", as it became clear that 7 have already been evacuated.
From the words of the Deputy Prime Minister, it became clear that equipment will be delivered to "Kairos", which will ensure complete power supply to the ship's systems. The goal is to provide a new generator for the power supply, which will at least raise the ship's anchor.
Karadzhov emphasized that if there is a crew available and if the ship is not lagging behind, it remains entirely the owner's responsibility to deal with the consequences of what happened. Finally, when everything is over, the costs will be borne by the shipowner, the Minister of Transport added.
"The ship does not pose a danger to the environment or to the citizens in Varna. An operation will be carried out to evacuate it and we will seek refuge," the Minister of Transport assured.
Grozdan Karadzhov pointed out that there is no data on the tanker's location over time.
We recall that the tanker "Kairos" is part of the Russian shadow fleet and is subject to sanctions, which was hit by Ukraine on November 28.
