The new ad hoc prosecutor will be elected on Friday, December 12, 2025. This was reported by the legal portal Lex.bg. The main task of this magistrate is to investigate crimes committed by the Prosecutor General.
Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has expressed his desire to attend the election of the new ad hoc prosecutor, news.bg specified. The term of office of a prosecutor for the investigation of crimes committed by the Prosecutor General cannot exceed two years. After the expiration of this term, the magistrate is reinstated to his previous position.
According to the Judicial System Act, if the proceedings against the Prosecutor General or his deputy continue for more than two years, another judge is determined, who is appointed by the Prosecutorial College as a prosecutor in the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office.
Those wishing to become ad hoc prosecutors are Georgi Ushev and Margaritka Sherbanova from the Sofia Court of Appeal, judges from the Sofia City Court Miroslava Todorova, Petya Kruncheva, Daniela Borisova, Anton Urumov, Toni Getov and Vilislava Angelova, as well as their colleagues from the Varna District Court Deyan Denev, Asen Popov and Petar Petrov.
