The new three-kilometer section of the "Hemus" motorway from the "Dermantsi" road junction to the stage connection with road III-307 Lukovit - Ugarchin will be opened for traffic today, around 12:00 p.m., for vehicles up to 12 tons, the press center of the "Road Infrastructure" Agency (API) announced. This completes the construction of section 1 of the "Hemus" Motorway.
At the end of August, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov inspected the construction of the section, and in early October, traffic was opened on the 10-kilometer section of the motorway between the "Boaza" and "Dermantsi" road junctions, with work continuing on the next 3 km.
The RIA recalls that section 1 has two road junctions - "Boaza" and "Dermantsi", through which the new route is connected to the republican road network in the region. In addition to them, there are four more large bridge structures on the Vit River in the section. All bridges are built with two independent structures for each of the directions of traffic, with each of the lanes having two lanes. The first bridge at km 89 is 534 m long and has a total of 17 openings, and the height of the structure is 12 m.
The second bridge is at km 90. Its right wing is 694.2 m long, and the left wing is 730.7 m. To increase stability, five beams have been installed in each of the openings of the structure, which are united with a reinforced concrete monolithic concrete slab. The bridge at km 91 is 632.8 m long, and the one at km 98 is 221 m. Noise-insulating screens have been built on the bridges, as well as in a section of nearly 100 m before and after them on the left and right, to protect the environment and reduce the impact of noise from intensive traffic. Two viaducts have also been built at km 100 and 101, with a length of 440 m and 352 m respectively. There are a total of 12 underpasses and overpasses in the section - six agricultural and six at the intersection with republican and municipal roads. There is also a recreation area in the section, which is at km 94 in both lanes.
API also informs that construction works continue in sections 2 and 3 of the "Hemus" highway, whose total length is 36.28 km - from the end of the "Dermantsi" road junction to the connection with road II-35 Pleven - Lovech, including the "Pleven" road junction.
