Regardless of the resignation of Rosen Zhelyazkov, a vote of confidence was still held in parliament. He gathered only 106 votes out of the required 121. Deputies from GERB-SDF, “DPS – New Beginning“, ITN and BSP did not participate in the vote, with one exception &ndquo; BSP MP Ivan Petkov, who supported the overthrow of the cabinet. What are the reasons for his decision?
“I voted because this was my tact with which to finally express to our leadership what I said at the last plenum. Namely, that it would come to this. That the alliance with Borisov, and especially with Peevski, would make people take to the streets. Borisov played, as always, like a cunning political fox and came out on top," Petkov said in the studio of "Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov."
According to him, the BSP needs urgent internal change, including a new party leadership, Congress and a new program, before looking for future partners. Petkov also said that the protesters see an alternative to the current government in the person of President Rumen Radev and expressed bewilderment at the conflict between the BSP leadership and the head of state.
The MP defended his position that on key issues such as membership in the EU, NATO and the eurozone, the public should have been asked through referendums, and insisted that dialogue and peace should be leading in foreign policy.
Ivan Petkov stressed that despite voting against the cabinet, he remains a member of the BSP and claims that his actions receive support from party members and sympathizers throughout the country.
