The Ministry of Interior has issued a series of preventive advice to citizens due to the introduction of the euro - 1

In connection with the introduction of the euro as a means of payment in our country from January 1, 2026, the Ministry of Interior has issued a series of preventive advice to citizens to prevent abuse. Here are the tips from the Ministry of Interior:

Use only official places for exchange – banks or post offices, where during the first 6 months the exchange will be free of charge. During this period, post offices will be patrolled by uniformed and police patrols. Teams of the “Security Police“ in the SDVR and the Regional Directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be assisted by the Gendarmerie to maintain public order around post offices throughout the country.

The Head of the “Fraud” Sector at the General Directorate of the National Police, Chief Inspector Zlatka Padinkova, recommends that in January 2026, when both levs and euros will be in circulation, payment be made by bank card. The other sure way to protect yourself from financial abuse is to deposit your levs into your bank accounts before January 1, 2026. This way, your funds will be converted automatically and free of charge at the official fixed rate - 1 EUR for 1.95583 BGN.

The police urge - if you suspect fraud or other abuse, immediately report it to 112 or visit the nearest Ministry of Internal Affairs structure!
