Servicemen from the Land Forces and the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) participated today, December 27, in memorial ceremonies in Karlovo and Ruse to honor the memory of the 13 Bulgarian servicemen who died in the operation of the coalition forces to stabilize and rebuild Iraq in the period 2003 - 2008.

In Karlovo, servicemen from the 61st Stryamska Mechanized Brigade participated in the memorial ceremony in front of the Monument to those who died in the fight against global terrorism. As a sign of respect for the memory of the deceased, they paid military honors and laid wreaths and flowers.

In Ruse, servicemen from the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) honored the memory of officer candidate Anton Petrov, who died 22 years ago in the attack on the “India“ base in Karbala. Wreaths and flowers were laid at his grave and the deputy commander of the JSOC, Colonel Ivan Raykov, relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms of the deceased, bowed.

On December 28 in Krumovgrad, the commander of the Joint Special Operations Command, Brigadier General Bozhidar Boykov, and servicemen from the special forces will participate in the memorial ceremony in memory of Senior Lieutenant Nikolay Saryev, who died after the attack on the “India“ base on December 27, 2003.

On December 29 in the city of Pleven, servicemen from the 5th Brigade Command will pay military honors and lay wreaths and flowers in front of the memorial plaque in the command area in memory of the servicemen from the 5th Shipka Mechanized Brigade who died in Iraq - officer candidates Ivan Indjov, Svilen Kirov, Gardi Gardev and Dimitar Dimitrov. A memorial service will be held in their memory.
