A 42-year-old woman died in a fire in a room on the ground floor of a residential building in the “Lozenets“ residential district in Sofia. The incident was reported at 12:21 p.m. on December 28. The fire destroyed household property, waste, and the walls of the room were also smoked. This was announced by the General Directorate “Fire Safety and Population Protection“ (GDPBZN) on its website.
Over the past 24 hours, 109 fires have been extinguished in the country. Firefighters have responded to 353 reports of accidents. There were nine false calls.
Firefighters from Yambol helped extinguish a fire that broke out in a Turkish truck carrying tangerines. The incident occurred between the villages of Okop and Kalchevo. Two fire engines were sent to the scene of the fire. The driver of the heavy truck was not injured. The tractor was destroyed, as was a large part of the vehicle's trailer.
24 fires occurred with direct material damage. Of these, 15 were in residential buildings, two in auxiliary, temporary or prefabricated buildings, three in vehicles, etc. 85 fires occurred without causing material damage, mainly in dry grass, waste, when cooking appliances were damaged, etc.
235 rescue activities and assistance operations were carried out. Firefighters assisted in accidents, removing trees, rocks, etc.
In connection with the strong wind in the country yesterday, firefighters responded to 300 reports of fallen trees and dangerous objects.
The strong wind caused material damage in a total of 26 districts in the country, the Bulgarian Fire and Rescue Service reported to BTA.
No people were injured in the worsening weather conditions.
