On first reading: Deputies decided to close the Anti-Corruption Commission - 1

The Parliament adopted on first reading the GERB-SDF proposal to close the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), with its investigative functions transferred to the Ministry of Interior, and the declarations of conflict of interest to the Court of Accounts. The bills of "DPS - New Beginning" and PP-DB were rejected, BNT reported.

Georgi Krastev - GERB-SDF: "The ACC did not produce justice or results. It produced noise and disappointments. Corruption at the top was not hit. As we all know, there are no guilty parties and no convictions. The functions of detecting and combating corruption should return to the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, which has been specialized in this activity for many years. The investigation of high-level authorities should return to the investigators."
Hamid Hamid - "DPS - New Beginning": "Law on the Closure of the CPC as part of the activities, namely the submission and verification of the declarations of the persons being verified, are redirected to the Court of Auditors. The new moment is that they will now also deal with preventing conflicts of interest. The fight against corruption is transferred to the structures of the State Anti-Corruption Agency, where they were until the adoption of the Law on Combating Corruption."
Bozhidar Bozhanov - co-chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria", PP-DB: "We propose that this commission disappear in its current form and be replaced by a more focused, much smaller commission that is not a racket, and that this be the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest."
Tsveta Rangelova - "Vazrazhdane": "We will not support the legislative proposals of GERB and the DPS, because we believe that they are once again giving the opportunity for repression of people you chose to head the services, I am talking about the State Anti-Corruption Agency and the Directorate for the Prevention of Corruption, and we believe that the intended result indicated by the bills will not be achieved and will soon be necessary to seize them again from DANS, when your people are no longer leading them."
