Denitsa Sacheva on our participation in the Peace Council: The decision is good for the country - 1

The decision to join Bulgaria's Peace Council is in no way contrary to the general European consensus at the moment. Denitsa Sacheva, Deputy Chairwoman of the GERB-SDF parliamentary group, commented this to journalists in the National Assembly, quoted by BTA. She specified that next week the government will propose to the National Assembly to ratify the accession.
"We will continue to be part of all decisions that are made regarding the European consensus, the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will be in Brussels tonight, where he will also participate in the European Council", Sacheva also pointed out.

In her words, what has happened does not oppose the interests of Bulgaria, nor the EU, nor the common interests in achieving lasting peace. "This is also an act that must be considered and in support of the Middle East being a zone that is not a source of conflicts, but that we have the opportunity for the decision-making processes that will be made in this region of the world", Sacheva emphasized.

She specified that the decision to join the Peace Council was taken yesterday at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, for signature. "The outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov has been given a mandate to join the council today. Let us not oppose what the decisions will be, we have enough time to convince everyone in the National Assembly that this is a decision that is good for Bulgaria", insisted Denitsa Sacheva.
According to her, the important thing for our country is for it to make decisions, to have its own voice regarding security-related issues, because we are a country that must participate in these decisions, and not just be part of their implementation. We are a border zone in terms of security, the Middle East, migration, and as such we continue to fulfill our commitments most conscientiously and responsibly, and this in no way contradicts the interest of the European Union, said the deputy chairman of the GERB-SDF parliamentary group.

Joining the Council is not tied to financial commitments for our country, contributions are voluntary, explained Denitsa Sacheva. "We have not joined the Council to reach situations that are unfavorable for Bulgaria, quite the opposite - we have joined the initiative to be where we can actively participate, to express our position" , she added.

"As for the dates and deadlines, you may not have expected us to give the date on which these events take place, nor to change the date of the invitation, I think another politician was concentrating so much on the dates, we are concentrating on the content", the MP also said when asked how this decision to join was made, and by a government in resignation.

There is no EU position that says that one should not participate in international formats related to dialogue and that one can express the position of one's country. The characteristics of what the tasks and goals will be are changing very dynamically at the moment, the deputy chairman of the GERB-SDF parliamentary group also explained. "I believe that Bulgaria being a mediator, a bridge state, is in no way detrimental to our national interests", stressed Sacheva.

US President Donald Trump officially established his Peace Council in Davos, where the World Economic Forum is being held, world agencies reported. "This council has the chance to be one of the most significant bodies ever created", he said. The Associated Press and DPA report that Bulgaria is among the countries on the Council.

"Today Bulgaria joined the Peace Board under the patronage of the United States of America and personally of President Trump", said outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov after the official ceremony for the establishment of the council, which took place in Davos, Switzerland, the press service of the cabinet reported.
