Rumen Radev leaves the presidency at 4:00 p.m. - 1

The Constitutional Court will rule on the resignation submitted on Tuesday by President Rumen Radev. This will happen at the meeting of the constitutional judges scheduled for 10 a.m.

This is what Rumen Radev said on the 9th year since taking his first oath as president.

In 10 minutes and 10 seconds, he motivated his decision and, without saying it outright, made it clear what his next steps would be:

"Today's political class has betrayed the hopes of Bulgarians in compromises with the oligarchy. Two-thirds no longer vote and a new social contract is needed. Your trust obliges me to protect the statehood, the institutions and our future".

As he promised on Monday evening, hours after his last presidential address, Radev submitted his resignation to the Constitutional Court.

In his application for early termination of his powers, he laconically stated that his motives were contained in his address to the people.

In order to terminate the powers of the fifth Bulgarian president, the constitutional judges must establish that Rumen Radev acted of his own free will.

In order to comply with the principle of continuity of the presidential institution, the current vice president will automatically assume the post of head of state upon the acceptance of Rumen Radev's resignation.

At exactly 4 p.m., the first Bulgarian president to leave office early will be sent to the grand entrance of "Dondukov" 2 from the first female president Iliana Yotova.
