A new attempt by the deputies to vote on the final changes to the Electoral Code in the plenary hall is expected. Yesterday, the item was included in the agenda of the National Assembly as an emergency, but due to a lack of quorum, the session failed.
The new election rules were approved days ago in the Legal Committee at a midnight session that lasted nearly 14 hours. According to the proposed texts, the current type of machines is eliminated, and voting must be carried out using scanning devices. It is this proposal that has been the bone of contention between the opposition and the ruling party in recent days.
The Legal Committee also approved GERB's proposal that, if new machines are not provided for the upcoming vote, voting with the devices from previous elections or with paper ballots should be maintained. The proposal of "Vazrajdane" to limit the number of polling stations in countries outside the EU was also approved. There, a maximum of 20 polling stations will be allowed to be opened outside diplomatic missions.
