"Today I lit a cigarette again. The lump in my throat became even bigger", wrote on "Facebook" Nikolay Popov, the father of Siyana, who died in 2025, after the news of another child killed by a TIR traveled around the country. The incident occurred around midnight on January 26, 2026 in the Republic Passage, where a Turkish truck crushed a car and took the life of a 9-year-old girl.
Nikolay Popov, who has become a symbol of the fight against the war on the roads, sharply attacks the way such tragedies are reported. According to him, the information is presented "as if you were reading the price of tomatoes in the store". He is categorical that no one has a chance against the "steel press" of the trucks, and the state remains indifferent.
Popov directly accuses the ruling party and the opposition of complete negligence.
"The system is important. As long as politicians control the judicial system, it will always be like this. Our children will die", warns the grieving father, quoted by social networks. He claims that foreign drivers kill "at will" because they know that Bulgaria lacks effective control.
In his emotional post, Nikolay Popov reveals that he has been attacked and called successively "a "garba", "communist" and a State Security agent. He emphasizes that no political party has stood behind his cause, and instead of support he receives "scum and trolls". According to him, the government is in the hands of people who don't care about the blackened families, while their own children are safe abroad.
Here is the entire post:
I don't smoke cigarettes.
When I lost Siyana - I smoked.
Later, with willpower, I refused this vice.
Until today.
Today I lit a cigarette again.
The lump in my throat became even bigger.
I get up early. If I sleep at all.
I light a candle for Siyana and hear a woman on the screen say in an even voice:
„A TRUCK killed a child in the Republic Passage.“
So indifferent.
It's like reading the price of tomatoes in the store.
As if something completely normal had happened.
Just another child.
Another family.
No one has a chance against the huge trucks.
No defenses can save you when you get hit by a truck.
This is a guillotine. A steel press.
The state's attitude is the same.
The rulers' children are alive.
Most of them are not even in Bulgaria.
For them, the crisis after Siyana's death is over.
I continue to fight the failed state.
They don't even pick up the phone.
Neither the rulers, represented by the prime minister,
nor the fictional opposition, which is only interested in
who to appoint as head of the Supreme Court of Cassation and as prosecutor general.
Get it - names don't matter. The system is important.
As long as politicians control the judicial system, it will always be like this.
Our children will die.
Foreign drivers will know that they can kill at will here.
To drive as they please.
Because there is no control.
Everything is rotten and rotten.
The worms are already eating our children.
Our mothers. Our fathers.
And no one cares.
No one who lives well in the pigsty cares.
No one who lives well wants to get dirty.
Because they kicked me out as a “prominent gerbadji“,
then “from the PP–DB“,
then a communist,
that even from the DS –
although when they closed the DS, I was 6 years old…
I want to ask you something simple:
have you heard at least one crappy party say
“We support Nikolay Popov in his cause“?
No. Of course.
Instead – trolls, articles, slop.
I want you to see what kind of people rule us
and think carefully
do you want – God forbid –
to be in my place.
This is what I want-no one, ever again, to be in my place….enough.
