"We have seen the trick with the new faces in the BSP many times. They then become old. If this congress takes place, it is formally convened for the election of the chairman, but the congress has a much greater function. First - to assess why the BSP has come to this point, what short-term measures should be taken to exit, and only in third place are the elections," former BSP leader, former Speaker of the National Assembly and former Minister of Interior Mihail Mikov told the Bulgarian National Radio.

According to him, Iliyana Yotova is an experienced and sensible politician and after the consultations she will determine who will be the acting prime minister and "will give him a mandate to form the government".

"Do you see what great drama is produced when such changes are made to the Constitution that break the entire system of relations between the authorities. I think that this drama, especially after a parliamentary crisis following the resignation of the government, is quite unnecessary. And it would be quite good if all political parties and those who participated in this battle against President Rumen Radev, he is no longer president, would start to sprinkle ashes on their heads and one of the first tasks of the new parliament will be to return the old situation in the Constitution," he also said.

According to Mikov, the BSP has lost its socialist image and the assessment is sad. "I think it is good to have a congress to mobilize, not that miracles will happen", he added.

And he pointed out that Krum Zarkov is a very worthy candidate for leader of the BSP.

"Because he has one quality that others do not possess, he has not messed up in all that has happened in the last year. And he has the moral credit to lead the party in a difficult situation. He realizes how difficult it will be for him if there is a congress. Although the congress has been announced in the State Gazette, attempts will be made to block it not only by Atanas Zafirov, but also by the entire group around him, in order to preserve the status quo in the BSP", said the former party leader.

Mikov pointed out that in Rumen Radev's project, BSP members and sympathizers "see hope and some salvation in this political coalition, because there is no time to register a party".

"From now on, BSP members and sympathizers are waiting for blood, sweat and tears, and selflessness. Perhaps this is the party's last chance for survival. "Realism suggests that the elections should be viewed soberly, especially when Radev's political project is also on the field," Mikov commented.

And he is categorical that it is "important for the BSP to clean up its political profile and moral image shortly before the elections," especially after the collaborations with the ruling party.
