The Pleven District Prosecutor's Office will file a request with the court for the permanent detention of the truck driver who caused the serious accident near Telish.
The 46-year-old man has been detained for up to 72 hours and has already been charged. His measure of detention is expected to be reviewed later in the day.
The serious accident occurred on Wednesday morning on the road between the villages of Telish and Dolni Dubnik. While driving at a speed that did not comply with road conditions, the accused lost control of the truck, which entered oncoming traffic and hit a passenger car head-on.
It was established that there was black ice on the asphalt in the fatal section, which contributed to the fatal impact. The accident killed 58-year-old anesthesiologist Dr. Tsvetan Kostadinov, who is also the former mayor of Cherven Bryag.
It was established that the 46-year-old truck driver systematically violated the rules of the road. He was imposed administrative penalties - he has a total of 16 acts and 8 tickets. His driving license was also taken away after he drove after drinking alcohol. His alcohol and drug tests after the accident were negative.
