A requiem prayer for the victims of communism will be celebrated today, February 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the capital's metropolitan cathedral "St. Nedelya", the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC) announced.
The service will be celebrated by Bishop John of Branica - first vicar of the Metropolitan of Sofia, with the blessing of the Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil.
The date February 1 is associated with events that occurred in 1945, when the death sentences of the former regents, palace advisors, ministers and members of parliament from the 25th National Assembly were carried out. The date February 1 is celebrated for the first time in 2011, when it was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers as an official Day of Appreciation and Tribute to the Victims of the Communist Regime.
