Tsvetlin Yovchev: The role of the Ministry of Interior in the electoral process is being overexposed - 1

If we have brought it to the point where the voters depend on the police, then democracy is in danger. The Ministry of Interior has functions in the electoral process, but they are being overexposed. The elections depend to no less extent on other institutions such as the Central Election Commission and Information Service. This was stated on bTV by the former chairman of the State Security Agency Tsvetlin Yovchev.

According to him, the elections are not completely fair. In his words, many things need to change. If we continue in this way, the foundation of democracy will be destroyed, he believes, quoted by news.bg.

Yovchev is of the opinion that the Electoral Code must create equal conditions for all voters and guarantee fair elections. He considers it a mistake to limit the number of polling stations outside the EU. According to him, this is a violation of democracy.

Regarding the closed Anti-Corruption Commission, he stated that from its very inception, it was designed to be used as a truncheon. Yovchev pointed out that the fight against corruption is not achieved by increasing the means of a commission to monitor, eavesdrop and make arrests. The former head of the National Security Agency stressed that corruption is only effectively investigated with tools that monitor cash flows.

Yovchev noted that he was not sought after for a position in the future caretaker government. He added that he would refuse and that he was currently far from politics.
