The oldest tree in the yard of the "Nativity of the Virgin" monastery in Burgas fell on Sunday at around 5:30 p.m., BNT reported.
Footage from a security camera in the monastery captured the collapse of the tree.
The holy monastery told BNT that the incident was not caused by a strong wind, as it was not intense at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. This is the third tree in a row that has fallen by itself, tearing itself apart from the roots.
Abbess Ksenia has been seeking help for three years to carry out sanitary felling of old and dangerous trees, but almost always receives either a refusal or expensive offers that are impossible to pay for.
“We hope now and call on the Burgas Municipality to help. We also call on all Burgas citizens and organizations that can help both in clearing the fallen tree and in securing the remaining trees to get involved”, the monastery said.
Due to the deteriorating weather conditions, the power supply to the hospital in Galabovo was cut off. The accident occurred around 8:00 p.m.
The medical facility has been without electricity and heating for almost two hours. The power distribution company's on-duty teams were called in, who identified the damage and are currently looking for the cause of the accident so that it can be repaired and the power supply restored.
The deputy mayor of the municipality, Plamen Barakov, said that the situation is serious and everything possible is being done to restore the power supply to the medical facility as soon as possible.

The situation is particularly worrying given the strategic importance of Galabovo. The largest thermal power plants in the country are located on the territory of the municipality. This hospital is the key medical facility that is ready to receive patients from the thermal power plants in the event of possible industrial accidents.
Currently, there is no official information about the exact number of patients admitted, nor whether any of them are on mechanical ventilation or other life support systems.
