Diana Damyanova: Radev did what is logical, but dishonest - 1

The current president Rumen Radev prefers to be alone on the "stage", as if he is taking on the role of a king, so far he has not given specific information on the issues that interest us. He did what is logical, but dishonest - his goal is to say little in order to keep the wings of his potential sympathizers wide open. Bulgarian sociology says that a new political player is expected, who will have great chances, but the question of how much Radev is a new player is another matter. This was said by PR expert Diana Damyanova in “Hello, Bulgaria” regarding Radev's interview on BTN.

Former Deputy Minister of Energy Elenko Bozhkov is of the opinion that Radev cannot be expected to comment by name what he means when talking about the oligarchy. He also does not think that the current president should be expected to announce now which party or coalition he will go to the elections with.

Political scientist Svetoslav Malinov pointed out that he understood from the interview that the current president will form a party, but “this news does not help us”.

“Rumen Radev did not look like a person who would attack the oligarchy and defeat it. Yes, he mentioned it, but very cowardly. The fact that he does not mention names is not accidental”, he added. “Radev is positioning himself as a person who realizes that he has to form coalitions and is ready for it”, the expert also commented.

According to Malinov, Radev is not behaving as the leader of a party that will seek a majority, but still as a president, which, however, does not position him well on the party field. In his words, Radev can win by not saying anything specific.

Damyanova commented that the question on the agenda is whether the current president will fight the oligarchy or only a part of it. In her words, Radev has “opened the doors” for a governing coalition.
