Over 1,200 snow-clearing machines are processing the pavements on the republican roads. This is their largest number since the beginning of winter, reports RIA. The routes are being cleared and are passable in winter conditions. The work continues to ensure the safety of travel.
Temporarily due to snowfall and cleaning, the passage of heavy trucks with trailers and semi-trailers is limited on road III-866 Devin - Mihalkovo, road II-37 Batak - Dospat, as well as through the passes “Rozhen“, “Prevala“ and “Pechinsko“ in Smolyan district, on road III-865 Ardino - Kardzhali in Kardzhali district, road II-84 Yundola - Razlog in Blagoevgrad district, road II-84 Velingrad - Yundola and road III-842 Belovo - Yundola in Pazardzhik district. The movement of vehicles over 12 tons is also limited through the passes “Troyanski“ in Lovech district and “Primorski“ in Burgas district.
The regional road departments monitor the synoptic forecasts and take the necessary actions to treat the pavements. The goal is for preventive and then snow removal activities to begin as quickly as possible in order to ensure the passability of the roads. Priority is given to motorways, the busiest routes on the first-class and second-class road network and the passes providing connections between Northern and Southern Bulgaria. To increase safety and if necessary, it is possible to close individual sections of the routes for treatment. Where necessary due to strong winds, snow drifts or poor visibility, traffic may be temporarily limited until weather conditions improve and the road is cleaned.
Drivers must drive with increased caution and at a reasonable speed, keeping a safe distance, not making sudden maneuvers and not overtaking specialized machines that treat the pavements. Blocking traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions makes it difficult for all other drivers to travel and for snow removal equipment to operate.
