President Iliana Yotova paid tribute to the bas-relief of Vasil Levski in Monza.

The city is home to the second largest Bulgarian community in Italy.

The sculpture of the Apostle of Freedom is the work of Boris Borisov and was donated by the Municipality of Karlovo last year.

This is the first monument to the Bulgarian revolutionary in Italy.

The President was welcomed in Monza by Mayor Paolo Piloto.

Before him, the head of state emphasized that for the Bulgarian people Levski is a sacred place, a lesson in duty, dignity and integrity, intolerance against injustice, equality. “Levski is our example of the power of inner freedom“, emphasized Yotova. Mayor Piloto shared that he was strongly impressed by the image of Vasil Levski and his eternal values.

The head of state pointed out that the monuments to the Apostle throughout Bulgaria and abroad strongly attract everyone who carries a piece of him in their soul.

The president stated that the Bulgarian and Italian national heroes had the ability to look ahead in time, bequeathing to us the ideas of equality and solidarity, the press service of the head of state reported.
