MECH Chairman Radostin Vassilev commented on the program "This Saturday and Sunday" about his trip to Dubai and the speculation in the media.
„I was on a planned trip with my wife. On the 27th, she had a birthday. I was supposed to come home on the 2nd, I traveled on the 27th and stayed until the 4th. I have not met Peevski there. I have no community with Peevski – to disappoint the yellow media“, he said.
According to him, the situation on the ground was not as tense as it is being presented.
„I did not see anything. I wouldn't have known that there was tension there if it weren't for Bulgarian television.“
Vassilev specified that he had submitted an application for evacuation through the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had flown home together with other Bulgarian citizens.
„I submitted an application on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for evacuation and they brought me home with 326 Bulgarians by plane at night.“
Regarding security, Vassilev stated that the weaknesses in the defense are the result of long-standing problems. „The easiest answer is that for 30 or more years in Bulgaria, there was no investment in defense, but rather theft - and at an extremely high rate.“
He emphasized that the country's defense is in practice based on the allied mechanisms within NATO. “It has been said that the defense of Bulgaria is carried out on the basis of common allied mechanisms.“
All participants in the upcoming election race have already been registered – 14 parties and 10 coalitions will fight for a place in the 52nd National Assembly. There are 12 days left until the start of the election campaign, but political applications have already been made.
The leader of MECH stated that his party will certainly enter the next parliament and will strive to be a key factor. “I have no doubt that we will be part of the next National Assembly, because we have been steadfast in the path we have declared.“
According to him, success for the formation will be the opportunity to help create a new majority.
“Success will be for MECH to be the critical element that will enable the formation of an anti-corruption majority in the next parliament.“
Vassilev stated that his party is ready for political compromises if the goal is to isolate certain political figures. “We are willing to make any compromises with PP-DB, “Vazrazhdane“, Rumen Radev - just to isolate Peevski and Borisov from participating in power.“
The data from a sociological survey, which places MECH below the electoral barrier, also became a reason for comment. Vassilev was categorical that he did not believe such predictions.
„Sociologies are not done in Bulgaria. I tell you firsthand - this is a stochastic exercise by people who know electoral attitudes very well.“ He gave an example of previous elections, when, according to him, the predictions were far from the real result.
„Last time they gave us 1.7%, and we had 4.7%. If they give us 3.5% now, we could easily have 8%.“ And he concluded with a categorical message: „The sociology comes out most clearly on April 20.“
Vassilev also commented on the political processes surrounding President Rumen Radev, expressing concerns about his positions.
„For me, it is unacceptable and disappointing for the people closest to him to talk about a political project in this way.“ He believes that the head of state's positions on international issues have changed.
„Now Radev says that Iran must eliminate its nuclear and ballistic programs. Given that he is negotiating disarmament - this is not Radev, this is something new.“
According to Vassilev, such inconsistency is worrying. „If you act like this and are so soft politically, it means that tomorrow you can be with Borisov.“
The leader of MECH was categorical that his party will not participate in a government together with GERB or DPS.
„I fully support the Minister of Interior. "He should start replacing them in all regional administrations," Vassilev said.
According to him, the system is heavily dependent on old political influences.
„There it is taken over by people of former GERB ministers. The merger of the Ministry of Interior with organized crime is cut exactly in this way," he added.
