Security has been ordered for Prosecutor Teodora Georgieva after a report of threats against her. This was stated by the acting Minister of Interior Emil Dechev after the official marking of the International Day in Memory of the Fallen Law Enforcement Officers with the laying of wreaths at the monument to the fallen police officers in the capital, BTA reports.
Dechev specified that the signal was received through the acting Minister of Justice, who was informed personally by Georgieva.
„I reviewed the signal and decided that it should be sent to the General Directorate „Fighting Organized Crime“, where it has been assigned for verification. After analyzing the case, a decision was made that, given its specifics, it is necessary to provide security“, said Dechev.
According to him, the decision is also related to circumstances surrounding Prosecutor Georgieva from last year. The acting Interior Minister recalled that after Georgieva's public statements about problems in interaction with certain state institutions, a fire broke out in her mother's house, in which she died.
Dechev added that Georgieva “claims that she is threatened or that she feels threatened by important factors in the state. In this situation, the competent authority has assessed that it is necessary to provide security,“ the acting Interior Minister also said.
He specified that initially assistance was sought from the Protection Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, since by law it is responsible for the protection of threatened magistrates. According to Dechev, it was then assessed that there was no obstacle for the Ministry of Interior to provide such protection.
