The airspace over the "Vasil Levski" airport in the capital was closed briefly this afternoon, BNT learned.
The Sofia airport announced that a flight from Cologne was redirected and landed at Varna Airport. The security systems detected a drone. The Air Traffic Control, Border Police and all ground services were immediately informed.
The commander of a plane approaching for landing from Cologne was also informed. The machine was redirected and landed in Varna.
The airspace over the airport was closed briefly in order to ensure flight safety. After the drone was neutralized, normal air traffic was restored.
The Ministry of Interior announced to BNT that a drone signal had been verified. An amateur photographer was identified who was photographing landing and taking off planes. He voluntarily handed over his equipment to the Ministry of Interior officers. He gave explanations and was released.
