After the Iranian ambassador's statement that Bulgaria is not a target for them, the tension about the risks for the country has calmed down. This was commented by the leader of „Vazrazhdane“ Kostadin Kostadinov in „The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov“. Kostadinov explained that the presence of American tanker planes at Sofia Airport has caused public tension.
The leader of „Vazrazhdane“ commented on his party's call for talks with the Iranian embassy after the diplomatic mission stated that Bulgaria is not a target. He explained that the position of „Vazrazhdane“ is from earlier.
„At the time we said it, there was an unequivocal statement from the Iranian headquarters that any base that is used to attack Iran will be a legitimate target, as we currently see happening with the American bases in the Middle East, which we see are 100% destroyed. Since the Iranian ambassador says that Bulgaria is not a target for them, therefore there should be no problems.“
According to him, the tension in our country arose because of the American tanker planes at Sofia airport. Kostadinov also stated that the situation has caused concern among the people.
„A very serious tension has been created in society, I hope that now with the statement of the Iranian ambassador there will be calm.“
According to him, even moving the planes to a military airport does not solve the problem.
„Why are they in Bulgaria at all? The fact that they are allies does not mean that we have to give up our territory at any cost. NATO is a defensive, not an offensive alliance.“
Kostadinov described the use of a civilian airport for military purposes as unprecedented.
The leader of „Vazrazhdane“ also commented on the idea of Bulgaria falling under France's nuclear umbrella, pointing out that the National Security Advisory Council does not have the authority to make such decisions.
„There are three nuclear countries in NATO - the USA, France and Great Britain. The USA has the most power. As far as I know, the French do not have the potential to cover the entire territory of Europe and this desire of Macron shows a very pitiful Napoleonic complex. France has long ceased to be a great power and has become an accessory for decision-making outside its territory. Macron himself does not enjoy approval from his own country.“
Regarding the conflict in the Middle East, Kostadinov said that the actions of the United States are a mistake.
„What is happening in the Middle East is a huge capital mistake by Trump, I sympathize a lot with his domestic policy, because he is trying to strengthen the conservative foundations in society, which is perhaps a sip of common sense, after decades of neoliberal experiments against the foundations of man. But what happened is a huge mistake on his part, which will cost him very serious domestic political losses.“
He added that in his opinion it is not realistic to expect a quick fall of power in Iran.
