Rumen Hristov: Power is not betrayed, it is earned - 1

The upcoming elections, the judiciary, the caretaker cabinet and the economic challenges in the country were commented on by the leader of the United Democratic Forces (UDF) Rumen Hristov.

„Power is not betrayed, it is earned. Elections are coming and those who achieve a good result and a majority in parliament will have the advantage of filling the positions in the state government with their representatives“, Hristov told BNT.

He noted that he does not support mass layoffs:

„Among the people in the state administration there are professionals… Mass layoffs are not the best solution. I am not a supporter of mass purges. There are professionals in the state administration, but of course, there are also party appointments.“

Regarding the election of a new composition of the Supreme Judicial Council, Hristov explained:

„The issue is up for negotiation. The majority for the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council needs 160 votes and it will be difficult to do without us. The important thing is to elect worthy people.“

Regarding the election scenarios, Hristov commented that it is still too early to talk about compromises.

„It is still too early to talk about compromises. First, we are preparing for the elections. We have good lawyers and former ministers with experience, the talks will be held there.“

Regarding the coalitions after the elections, he emphasized that they are not visible in configuration.

Hristov explained why the UDF has not actively attacked the president so far.

„I criticize him when, as president, you take advantage of the institution to accumulate dividends for a future political formation. Now he is on the ground - this is correct and proper.“

Regarding the electoral lists, Hristov commented:

„Finding 300-400 people without 'spots' is not an easy task. No compromising evidence, but we will light a lamp for the voters that not everything is flowers and roses.“

Hristov also commented on the readiness of the UDF to be in opposition:

„Oh, yes, we are ready. We have serious experience in being a constructive opposition. It is not easy, but we are prepared.“

Regarding the ministers in the caretaker cabinet, he added that Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov has received a blessing to stay and that he trusts several people because of their Euro-Atlantic orientation.

Regarding inflation and the rise in food prices, Rumen Hristov commented that life is becoming more expensive not because of the introduction of the euro, but because of speculation by producers and traders.
