„Velichy“ issued a declaration due to problems with garbage and dirty air in Bobov Dol. The people of Bobov Dol have been left to live among the smoke, the waste for too long, their own city has been turned into a dump, there is an indifference that over the years is starting to resemble not just politics, but criminal politics, said Krasimira Katincharova from the parliamentary rostrum. According to her, in Bobov Dol the air is not breathable, the water is not drinkable, the land is also poisoned, BTA pointed out.
She recalled that last week in a declaration they drew attention to the poor quality of drinking water in Balanovo and the people there who are forced to demand the declaration of a state of emergency so that the institutions that have forgotten about their existence can do something. For 15 years they have not been able to drink their water, which is polluted by the same pollutant, which will be discussed in a moment - the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant, Katincharova pointed out.
The problem is not just the chimneys, the problem is in the waste, in the way the municipality manages them and, more precisely, fails to manage them so that people are protected, she explained. The region has a high mortality rate, with many respiratory diseases, with oncological diseases, among which throat cancer predominates, the declaration says. And when you breathe dirty air for years, when you live next to such a huge polluter, when the soil and groundwater are poisoned, which have also taken their dose of poison, no one has the right to ignore the problems of these people lightly, said the people from “Velicie“.
“By law, the mayor is responsible for waste management, the municipality, for organization, for control, for transport, for the way in general, in which this issue, this process moves, organizes. But in Bobov down there is chaos on this issue. There are not just doubts, but already evidence of mismanagement, of a risk to the environment and human health.
The mayor can no longer hide behind general talk or behind various bureaucratic explanations. Mayor Elza Velichkova did not provide the requested documents, there are no weighing notes, no translation documents, no waybills, nothing more. When we started the inspection, we found that there is a model that has been imposed over the years, a model in which waste is circulated, the same companies are circulated, money is circulated. In the end, the residents remain drowned in waste around Bobov Dol. There are four illegal dumps, one is located in a forest and is already on the road“, said Katincharova.
The political force is demanding that the State and Financial Inspection Agency conduct a comprehensive audit of contracts and payments, and that the Ministry of Environment and Waters order an independent technical and ecological inspection of the so-called reclaimed dump in the “Govedarnika“ area, as well as the risk to the soil, groundwater and surface water in the area.
