The Parliamentary Defense Committee supported a draft resolution related to Bulgaria's accession to the Peace Council and a bill amending and supplementing the Social Assistance Act at an extraordinary session, BTA reports.
The draft resolution obliging the Council of Ministers to submit to the National Assembly a draft law on ratifying the agreement on Bulgaria's accession to the Peace Council, submitted by Delyan Peevski („DPS - New Beginning“), was voted with nine votes „for“, no „against“, and one „abstained“.
The accession of our country to the Peace Board under the patronage of the United States of America and President Trump was announced by the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov on January 22.
We have welcomed this initiative since its inception and we cannot fail to note the historic contribution of Rosen Zhelyazkov, who made a bold move and made Bulgaria part of the Peace Board, said Stanislav Anastasov („DPS – New Beginning“).
The bill to amend and supplement the Social Assistance Act, submitted by Denitsa Sacheva (GERB-SDF), was adopted with 11 votes „for“, none against and one „abstain“.
Sacheva presented the bill to amend and supplement the Social Assistance Act and pointed out that it concerns new social assistance for Christmas and Easter for pensioners. Until now, the funds were paid from the budget of the National Social Security Institute, which is incorrect, because they should be used for various insurance risks, said Sacheva. In addition, the minimum pension is used as a line from which to provide this supplement. This usually leads to the fact that other incomes of pensioners are not taken into account and thus the supplement is sometimes distributed unfairly, she added.
According to her, the new social assistance will be paid according to a methodology developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. It will cover people with low incomes - pensioners, people with disabilities, single parents.
I believe that the proposal is good, it is normal for the state to support not only narrow categories, but also the majority of people in need, said Ivo Tsanev („DPS - New Beginning“). He noted that war victims also need assistance.
