After more than two decades at the head of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, our legendary athlete Stefka Kostadinova announced her decision to devote herself to political activity and participate as a candidate for MP. In this regard, she will take the necessary steps to officially terminate her powers as the chairwoman of the BOC, in accordance with the organization's statute and current legislation.
In a statement distributed to the media, Kostadinova emphasizes that all these years she has worked with her heart for the development of Bulgarian sport and for the successes of our country on the Olympic stage. “My reward was the anthem, the tricolor and the tears of joy in the eyes of our athletes. "I have never sought personal recognition and have always put Bulgarian sport above my own ambitions," she says.
Kostadinova adds that for her the most valuable thing is young people and the creation of conditions for their healthy and full development through sport. "Life has taught me that Olympic medals and world records are important, but it is more important that every child and every athlete receive support from the state," she says.
The legend of Bulgarian athletics thanked the "Movement for Rights and Freedoms," which nominated her for parliament, and stated that she hopes to justify the trust she has been voted for. At the same time, Kostadinova called for the existing internal disputes in the BOC to be resolved in a way that guarantees the continuation of the organization's activities as a symbol of unity and dignity in the world Olympic family.
