FACTS has learned from an informed source that the Ministry of Energy is preparing a change in the Board of Directors of Kozloduy NPP EAD.
The information we have indicates that the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Iliya Iliev, will be replaced by Prof. Georgi Kaschiev, and the personnel change will become a fact tomorrow.
The appointment of the new boss to Minister Traycho Traykov was insisted on by politician Ivaylo Mirchev, one of the leading figures in the PP-DB coalition.
According to information from public sources, Prof. Kaschiev has a contradictory opinion on the development of Bulgarian nuclear energy, having repeatedly criticized its diversification and its separation from Russian dependence.
In a similar spirit, statements by Georgi Kaschiev are known in the public space that it is better to close the operating units 5 and 6 than to diversify them.
Among nuclear power engineers from the site of the operating plant, Kaschiev's name is also associated with his participation in anti-environmental protests against the NPP, organized by the Romanian side and held in the city of Craiova. In Kozloduy, he was also known for his close personal contacts with the Magnitsky sanctioned Rumen Ovcharov and Alexander Nikolov.
Thus, the question naturally arises whether the acting Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov, proposing Georgi Kaschiev as Chairman of the Board of Directors, will extend the resource of the operating units and implement the plans for the construction of the new seventh and eighth.
