Bulgaria, as a country that does not participate in the military actions of the US and Israel against the Iranian regime, associates itself with the joint statement of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and Canada on the Strait of Hormuz, made on March 19, 2026. This is stated in a position statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
The joint declaration notes readiness to participate in relevant efforts to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and to take steps to stabilize energy markets, Reuters reported earlier.
We join the stated position, which condemns the recent attacks on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, as well as against civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities, which effectively led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the MFA's position also states.
Our Foreign Ministry also adds: "In this context, we express our deep concern about the growing conflict and call for an end to the laying of mines and other attempts to impede trade through the Strait of Hormuz. The security of the seas and freedom of navigation is in the interests of all countries, including the Republic of Bulgaria".
We welcome the readiness of the allied countries, authors of the statement, to contribute with appropriate measures to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. We also welcome the decision of the International Energy Agency to stabilize energy markets through strategic release of oil reserves and other measures, the MFA also states.
