Stanislav Balabanov: The Petrohan case is a lesson and should not be allowed again - 1

In these parliamentary elections, we will fight to restore normality in society. This was stated in “120 minutes“ Stanislav Balabanov from “There is such a people“ (ITN), who is at the head of the lists in Plovdiv and Haskovo. Alexander Rashev - leader of the party's list in Burgas was also in the studio with him.

Balabanov commented that the “Petrohan“ case is a lesson and should not be allowed again. “ITN in the 52nd parliament, as a right-wing and conservative party, first of all we will protect Bulgarian children, traditional Bulgarian families and we will talk about reason and normality. We, as a society, should not allow this situation anymore. As a right-wing party, we do not want to we hear the word deficit in relation to the state budgets. ITN will strive for a right-wing policy that will allow us to spend as much as we produce“, he also said.

Asked what lessons the party has learned from its participation in power, Balabanov replied: “The lessons and decisions were not easy. We cannot compare the times of 2020 and 2025, because we entered politics 5 years ago on a wave of protests, but then we did not receive the necessary support from this square, we did not have the recently popular calls for 121 deputies, but exactly half. Then we very clearly understood that it is not possible to govern the state alone and it will have to be governed in a coalition“.

He pointed out that ITN knew what the political price would be by entering a coalition with the BSP and GERB, but they paid it in the name of stability – Bulgaria's accession to the EU, Schengen, regular budget, PVE and the eurozone. “The lesson learned is that after they send us to the Bulgarian parliament, political parties must make an effort to form governments and have stability“, he added.

Rashev said that he was among the founders of the ITN. According to him, through their participation in power, they managed to push through the parliament the party's policies set out in their program. He gave an example with the Shared Parenthood Act and the changes to the Family Code, but they did not have time left to implement their main priority – the Act on the Direct Participation of Citizens in State Power and Local Self-Government.

When asked how the alliance between GERB and PP-DB differs from their alliance with Boyko Borisov's party, Balabanov pointed out:

“By the results. It is one thing to talk about goals without achieving them, coming to power at any price. Another thing is when there is a result, I give an example with the PVU - it was made by Asen Vassilev as Finance Minister, and the EC returned it as poorly prepared. And a plan that was restored, almost in its entirety, because of the ITN. The clarification of someone like Delyan Peevski, his real participation in the executive branch and his participation in the so-called “assembly“ is the merit of the PP-DB and their leader Hristo Ivanov. They set this deadlock with the Constitution and we, looking for a way out of the spiral of elections, had no choice and had to move towards stability“.
