Five months after the large-scale evacuation of residents in the Ruse village of Nikolovo due to a compromised dam on the lake in the Lipnik area, the road from the settlement to the forest park is still closed. Field work continues. However, access is expected to be free within days and a temporary traffic organization will be introduced in the area. At what stage are the repair activities?
The Ruse Municipality assures that the condition of the facility allows for a gradual restoration of traffic, BNT reported.
Eng. Zdravka Velikova, Deputy Mayor of the Ruse Municipality: “At the moment, the condition of the dam is stable. Geological surveys have been conducted. They prove that the body of the wall is in good technical condition. There is damage only on the dry slope of the dam, and only superficial washing away. So the technical condition allows us to organize traffic, to let light truck traffic pass.“
A number of measures to strengthen the facility have already been implemented.
"The drainage system has now been completed, a linear drain has been made to collect surface water and prevent it from going to the dam, so that the washing away does not continue.“
The director of the “Public Order and Security“ Directorate of the Ruse Municipality, Georgi Ignatov, added that at this stage no traffic light system will be built.

Increased control and the establishment of video surveillance are also planned.
