Ninova: The cabinet's measures against the crisis are insufficient and late - 1

The election campaign is active, but devoid of content. We are not having a real debate about the essential things. This was stated in the program “Crossroads” the leader of “Unruly Bulgaria” Cornelia Ninova.

According to her, the current campaign is filled with mutual accusations and attacks. “We want to talk, especially in this crisis, about essential issues — about tax policy, about economic measures, about social policies. Each party should imagine its vision, what it will do, and let us confront each other, and let the people choose”, said Ninova.

She described the measures taken by the caretaker government due to the crisis as insufficient and belated.

“These 100 million are not enough for support. You see what other European countries are doing”, commented Ninova. Moreover, according to her, these measures should have been introduced a long time ago. “I find the statement that we should wait for the crisis to progress further, for prices to rise further, and only then take measures very strange. For me, this is very unreasonable”, said Ninova.

She recalled that she was Minister of Economy precisely during the crisis. “Then we adopted a serious package of measures and saved the industry. We even came first in Europe in industrial production. We saved jobs. "The aid in the social package was 22 billion at the time," Ninova said.

She added that measures have already been adopted in a number of European countries, which means that their economy will be more competitive than ours. "Their goods will be cheaper due to the state aid they receive. Ours will be more expensive and uncompetitive. So far, 60% of what we eat is imported, but it will become 80%. That is, Europe will pull or at least maintain prices and competitiveness, and we will get worse," Ninova said.

According to her, the cabinet's measures are neither anti-inflationary nor sufficiently social.

"They only help a few industries - agriculture, transport. But even these 20 euros that are given per car are not a social measure. This is not serious”, said Ninova.

Furthermore, she added that the measures announced by the cabinet require an urgent and extraordinary session of parliament, which is also being demanded by “Unruly Bulgaria”.

“They are talking about reducing the excise tax for agricultural producers. This requires a change in the Excise Tax Act. This cannot be done any other way. Where are the deputies? This is absolutely irresponsible. There should have been an urgent session and these measures should have been adopted as legislative initiatives. I see that other parties also want parliament to be convened, but for far less important things that can wait”, said Ninova.

”Unruly Bulgaria” is proposing that the corporate tax for companies with excess profits be increased from 10 to 15%. Ninova also commented that one and a half million Bulgarians are on the verge of poverty, and the middle class is absolutely dying out. In the campaign, prices are the number 1 topic, the leader of “Rebellious Bulgaria” also believes.

“Determining my priorities, I see three key words: electricity, food and water. The first job of future deputies is to provide cheap energy, because you see what happened with electricity and fuel. This will affect the industry. The second is food, because food insecurity is looming because of the war in Iran. And the third is water because of what we know is happening in Bulgaria with water”, said Ninova.
