A 36-year-old man, heavily intoxicated, caused a fire in his apartment in a block of flats on “Patriarh Evtimiy“ Street in Haskovo and disappeared.
Around 10:30 p.m. last night, a report of smoke in the block of flats next to a popular pizzeria was submitted to the emergency number 112. Neighbors who saw the smoke alerted them about the incident. Firefighters, police and a medical team were sent to the scene. The teams that arrived found that there were no people in the apartment on the 5th floor, BGNES reported.
There were signs of fire in one of the rooms, but the resident was no longer inside. The walls in the apartment are covered in smoke, the bed, the cupboard are burnt and there is waste scattered on the ground - beer cans, soft drinks, empty glass jars, empty alcohol bottles, cigarette butts, uneaten food. The occupant apparently put out the fire himself. It is assumed that the fire was caused by the occupant of the apartment, who is believed to have fallen asleep with an unextinguished cigarette, but later woke up and started pouring water on it.
Fortunately, the material damage is not serious, but the neighbors fear that this will not be the last incident. Their neighbor had been causing them problems for a long time with his behavior after drinking alcohol, which was a daily occurrence, resembling mental problems. Sometimes he behaved aggressively, even with a woman who brought him food.
Some time ago, the man was left to live alone in the apartment after his father died. His brother, who lives in Plovdiv, used to pay the electricity bills in the apartment, but recently stopped paying after a large invoice and the apartment was left without electricity. The neighbors are demanding that the competent institutions take action in order to prevent a larger incident. The man is being sought by law enforcement.
