Krum Zarkov: Bulgaria is getting poorer - it's time to end inequalities and fair redistribution - 1

„We are observing stagnant incomes against the backdrop of rising prices and a series of crises, especially the one with fuel. The standard of living of Bulgarians is threatened, and the poorest are facing the risk of becoming even poorer. This cannot be ignored with indifference and will be our main priority.“. This was stated in Haskovo by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Krum Zarkov.

„We must say clearly: a change is needed in the system in which the wealth created in Bulgaria is concentrated in the hands of a few. Today we have a few very rich and a majority very poor. The BSP is the only party that consistently defends the idea of fair redistribution.“, he emphasized.

According to him, this can be achieved through better labor protection - higher pay, stimulating collective bargaining and creating and retaining decently paid jobs.

“A tax reform is also needed that does not burden people with low incomes, but introduces greater fairness. This, together with a stable fiscal policy oriented towards the real lives of people, are the first steps.“, added Zarkov.

According to him, the abolition of the flat tax is among the key measures: “This will increase the incomes of the lowest paid, will not burden the middle class and will require a greater contribution from the richest.“

On the topic of Haskovo and the depopulation of the region, he said: “Competent, honest and sustainable management is needed, not one that changes every few months. Transparent management is needed that does not use public resources for personal gain.“.

“The main problem for the region is the lack of well-paid jobs. The second – the lack of such in more remote settlements, such as Topolovgrad.“, said the leader of the left list for the region Lenko Petkanin.

According to him, over the last decade Haskovo has been seriously lagging behind in terms of GDP and ranks almost at the bottom in the country.

„Instead of development and higher incomes, the region is lagging behind. And Haskovo is not just a beautiful region with hardworking people - it is a region of strategic importance for national security. We are the external border of the European Union.“, Petkanin emphasized. And he is committed to working to improve the quality of life of the residents of the region.
