Due to signals received about atmospheric air pollution from the activities of the Thermal Power Plant (TPP) “Bobov Dol“ AD, experts of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water (RIEW) in Sofia conducted an unscheduled on-site inspection on Monday, the Ministry of Environment and Water (MEW) announced.
During the inspection, unorganized emissions were found, emitted from the boiler room building, where the power plant's energy capacities are located, as well as from compromised sections of the gas ducts to the combustion plant, the announcement says.
It was found that part of the emission flows formed in the combustion plant do not pass through the technological path specified in the complex permit. This means that they do not pass through all mandatory treatment facilities - electrostatic precipitators and sulfur removal plants, and are released prematurely into the atmosphere, the MEW added. An administrative-penal procedure has been initiated for the established violation, a penal decree is to be issued.
RIEW – Sofia monitors the activities of TPP “Bobov Dol“ AD on a daily basis. The plant is subject to constant control, including through regular inspections, both planned and based on signals from citizens. For each violation found, immediate sanctions are taken in accordance with the current legislation, the announcement says.
Since the beginning of the year, experts from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Sofia have carried out 20 inspections of the plant's activities and have drawn up 10 acts establishing administrative violations, the Ministry of Environment specifies and states that the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Sofia will continue to exercise strict control over the work of TPP “Bobov Dol“ AD in order to protect the quality of atmospheric air.
On March 23, the District Court-Dupnitsa confirmed a punitive decree of November 12 last year, issued by the Director of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water-Sofia, by which the TPP “Bobov Dol“ AD was imposed a property penalty in the amount of 250 thousand BGN.
