Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov will resign today, FACTS learned from an informed source.

This is expected to happen during the regular session of the Prosecutorial College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC)

Deputy Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova is named as his successor

Former Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev has already publicly called on Sarafov to resign, defining today, April 22, as the “last chance” for this move.

Unconfirmed information and rumors about Sarafov's resignation intensified in the media and social networks immediately after the convincing victory of "Progressive Bulgaria" in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday.

Vanya Stefanova currently holds the position of Deputy Prosecutor General at the Supreme Prosecutor's Office.
She was appointed to this position by the Prosecutorial College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in early January 2025 upon the proposal of the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov.

Stefanova is described as a long-standing prosecutor with extensive experience in investigating corruption crimes and cases of significant public interest.

She was the head of the specialized "Anti-Corruption" unit at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP).

She worked as a prosecutor at the District Prosecutor's Office – Slivnitsa, after which her career continued in the higher levels of the prosecution service.

She has experience as a prosecutor in the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office and the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office.

She graduated in law from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski“ in 1996.
