While the prices of basic food products are rising, each Bulgarian throws away an average of about 93 kilograms of food per year. This is shown by data from the Bulgarian Food Bank, according to which the total amount of food wasted in our country exceeds 614 million kilograms per year.

“The meaning of our work is to save from waste food that is unnecessary for the market and would very easily go to waste“, explained the executive director of the organization Tsanka Milanova, quoted by Nova TV.

According to experts, over 58 million tons of food are thrown away in Europe every year. In our country, the value of waste reaches over 1.8 billion annually. Despite the increase in the price of products, the trend remains alarming.

The Bulgarian Food Bank works with producers and processors, ensuring the traceability of donated food and its reaching people in need. The organization is supported entirely by donations and volunteer work.

Ahead of the fire season, the organization is calling on producers to donate food suitable for quick consumption and easy transportation. Anyone who wishes can get involved through donations or as a volunteer.
