There is an established case of a citizen who became a victim of fraud after paying the toll through an illegitimate site. In this regard, the Customs Agency reported which are the only official channels for online payment of the Danube Bridge toll (Ruse – Giurgiu). On site - in cash or with a bank card, which remains the safest and preferred way, or through the e-portal of the Customs Agency, where the official virtual POS terminal is located.
All other sites that offer a similar service are potential fraud. Payment through them carries a risk of loss of funds and misuse of personal data.
The amount of the toll is fixed – 2 euros, regardless of whether it is paid online or on site. If a site requires a different amount or additional "fees", this is a clear signal of fraud.
The competent authorities have been notified of the case of an already injured Romanian citizen. The "bridge" fee is collected by the "Customs" Agency when leaving Bulgaria via the Danube Bridge Ruse - Giurgiu. In the opposite direction (from Romania to Bulgaria) it is administered by the Romanian authorities.
Since the summer of 2024, the option of online payment has been introduced for all passenger cars (up to 8+1 seats), but due to the increase in fraudulent sites, increased caution and checking the address before payment are recommended.
