Obviously, Sarafov's resignation is related to the radical change in the political situation in our country. We recall that on April 22, after three years as acting prosecutor general, Borislav Sarafov resigned from the leadership of the state prosecution. On the same day, Vanya Stefanova accepted to be the new acting prosecutor general. The request for consent was sent by the Prosecutorial College of the Supreme Judicial Council. Thus, she has already been appointed temporarily - for a period of six months.
Vladimir Nikolov recalled that despite the resignation, Borislav Sarafov remains deputy prosecutor general. “A huge responsibility weighs on the new acting prosecutor general Vanya Stefanova - to demonstrate a break with the toxic management model and to manage things in such a way that a smooth transition to a titular leader is observed. The very fact of Sarafov's resignation has already reduced the tension. The investigation will be led by him, I do not envy my colleagues there“, the prosecutor emphasized.
According to him, the new composition of the SJC should be composed of respectable professionals. And he, in turn, should choose the titular heads of the prosecution and the SAC. “Without pressure and unregulated influence on prosecutors, the results will come. I do not believe that this composition of the Prosecutor's College will make serious decisions on the disciplinary proceedings against Sarafov. Its composition is disgraceful, they made the most inexplicable decisions. There was complete fusion with the head of the prosecution. The powers to appoint the SJC must be limited by the next government until a new legitimate composition is elected“, the magistrate stated.
Nikolov pointed out that he was not offered to be a member of the SJC from the parliamentary quota.
