Do not acknowledge debt over the phone, advises the "National Police" - 1

People often become the subject of aggressive phone calls, threats and misleading information from debt collection companies, which they recognize as attempts at telephone fraud. An aggressive policy for collecting receivables does not equal telephone fraud, warns the General Directorate of the "National Police".

On their Facebook page, the service published tips on how to protect ourselves from pressure from collection companies, writes BNT.

Keep your composure and do not take hasty actions. You have rights, write the institution.

And more:

- Do not acknowledge debt over the phone

- Do not pay immediately – even partially

- Require written evidence of the debt

- Do not give personal data

- Do not sign installment agreements without consultation - this may restore the expired statute of limitations

- Seek a lawyer

- Check whether the debt has not been repaid by statute of limitations

If you still find that you have to pay, check to whom you owe - the service provider or the collector.

The "National Police" specify that collectors do not have the right to forcibly collect - this is only done through a bailiff after a court decision.

If there are threats, harassment or impersonation of institutions - file a report, the service also advises.
